Fiona Gilligan, MSW/RSW: Clinical trauma therapist
Fiona Gilligan is a Clinical Trauma Therapist (MSW, RSW) with extensive training and experience in individual and family counseling.
In 1994, Fiona founded the Trauma Management Group which under her leadership (1994-2007) became a leading provider of trauma counseling, critical incident stress debriefing (CISM) and training. In 2001, TMG authored one of Canada’s first independent CISM models, Critical Incident Stress Management: From Theory to Practice which is has been used to train hundreds of groups and is also recognized towards accreditation with The Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists. Fiona was also a contributor to the book, Creating Excellence in Crisis Care (Hoff, Adamowski, 1995).
Fiona’s clinical interests include working with persons affected by crisis and trauma: Operational Stress Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (First Responder groups, including Police, Fire, Paramedics, Military), loss/bereavement, dissociation, anxiety, adjustment disorders, self esteem and generalized lifestyle coaching for adaptation and reintegration. Fiona has a mobile component to her work when called upon to respond to the immediate aftermath of larger scale critical incidents.
Fiona’s clinical practice utilizes therapies based in solution focused, cognitive behavior psychotherapy, imagery-desensitization, lifestyle reintegration (activities of daily/living-return to work), adjustment therapies, and bereavement. Fiona also provides EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Fiona balances her private practice with clinical training and is often called upon by First Responder Groups to train their Peer Based Mental Health Teams.
Fiona has a specialized practice focusing on Veteran's, active military members and First Responders. Unfortunately, Fiona is not accepting referrals outside of these parameters.
