Dunja Miskovic, Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Dunja Miskovic is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who works with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, identity exploration, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions. She has a particular interest in attachment wounds, relational trauma, self-worth, and the ways past experiences continue to shape present-day patterns.

Dunja received her Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Waterloo in 2016. She later worked as part of the team at Ray of Hope, where she gained experience supporting individuals navigating trauma, addiction, housing instability, mental health challenges, and complex life stressors within a compassionate, relationship-centered framework.

Driven by a passion for supporting individuals through difficult life experiences, Dunja returned to University in 2022 to pursue a second Master’s degree. She completed her Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University in 2025. Prior to joining the OATC, she worked at Queer Therapy Collective, providing therapy to individual and couples.

Dunja approaches therapy as an active, collaborative process grounded in curiosity, compassion, and genuine human connection. She recognizes that many people come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns they understand intellectually, but continue to experience emotionally or relationally. Her work focuses on helping clients build self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, process difficult experiences, and develop more secure and fulfilling relationships with themselves and others.

Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, relational, and integrative, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed approaches, Brainspotting, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. She has developed a particular clinic focus in Brainspotting and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy to help clients process trauma and emotional distress, strengthen attachment security and self-regulation, and shift longstanding emotional and relational patterns that are keeping them stuck.

Dunja is certified in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Brainspotting, an experiential, brain-body approach that can help clients process trauma, emotional distress, and deeply held patterns that may feel difficult to access from more cognitive or “top-down” therapeutic approaches alone. She is also certified in the Gottman Method for couples counselling and completed the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy externship. When working with couples, Dunja integrates EFCT and Gottman Method interventions to help partners better understand recurring relational dynamics, strengthen emotional connection, and develop healthier patterns of communication and repair.

Dunja also has a strong interest and specialized experience working with 2SLGBTQIA+ clients and communities. She has particular experience supporting individuals and couples navigating polyamory, consensual non-monogamy, kink, and alternative relationship structures. Alongside her clinical experience, her own lived experiences further inform her understanding of the complexities of identity, belonging, relationships, and navigating systems that can at times feel invalidating or exclusionary. She recognizes that many clients have had experiences of feeling misunderstood, pathologized, or unseen within healthcare systems, and aims to create a therapeutic space rooted in curiosity, collaboration, authenticity, and affirmation. She welcomes clients exploring identity, relationships, intimacy, belonging, and the complexities of navigating themselves within broader social and relational systems.

Outside of her clinical work, Dunja enjoys running, exploring local cafés and antique shops, spending time outdoors, and connecting with friends and community. She deeply values ongoing learning, and regularly engages in supervision, consultation, and connection with peers as part of her commitment to continual personal and professional growth.
