Orrin-Porter Morrison, PH.D.
Psychologist

Orrin-Porter is a psychologist who is passionate about getting to know others and their struggles while working collaboratively with them to find relief, safety, and inner calm. He helps adults with a variety of disorders including depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma and childhood trauma, and borderline personality disorder. In addition, his focus is on helping individuals who struggle with deep emotional concerns, such as low self-esteem or low self-worth, grieving the loss of a loved one or life change, fear of abandonment or rejection, difficulty trusting in themselves or others, feeling unsure about relationships or the future, struggles with managing anger, and difficulty trusting feelings or even difficulty with connecting with feelings. In addition, he works with clients who struggle with cultural, diversity, and religious/spiritual concerns per clients’ requests.

Orrin-Porter uses an evidence-based integrative approach to assessment and therapy. His primary approach is Emotion Focused Therapy, which emphasizes learning how to gain greater awareness and understanding of emotions to process them adaptively. He incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy to provide practical methods of increasing awareness of current experiences and patterns in behaviour. Regardless of the intervention, he believes that establishing a collaborative relationship that is both safe, trusting, and open is key to the therapeutic process, and he develops a treatment plan that is tailored to your own individual needs, with the goal of increasing your quality of life as well as improving relationships, emotional functioning, self-awareness, mastery, and ability to be the person you want to be.

Orrin-Porter received his B.A. in psychology, M.A. in Clinical Psychology, and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Windsor. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings including the Psychological Services and Research Centre (University of Windsor), the Centre for Psychological Services and Research (University of Ottawa), the Ottawa Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the Ottawa Couples and Family Institute, and Barrhaven Psychological Services.

When not engaged in diving deeply into peoples’ concerns, Orrin-Porter enjoys spending time with those closest to him and engaged in a variety of hobbies that include cooking, camping, backpacking, gardening, board games, sailing, and exploring the sights around Ottawa. He is focused on continually learning including seeking to develop his training in trauma and risk.
