William Jackson-Monroe, Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
William is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who holds a Master of Arts in Counselling and Spirituality from St. Paul University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology with a concentration in Health Psychology from Carleton University. He received formal training in individual therapy through clinical placements at St. Paul’s Counselling Center and the Center for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma (CTSACT), where he developed core competencies in trauma-informed care, therapeutic presence, and client-centered practice. This rigorous training, grounded in evidence-based modalities, enriched his ability to thoughtfully integrate emotional, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of well-being into his therapeutic approach. In addition to his academic and clinical work, he volunteered as a crisis line responder, offering immediate emotional support, de-escalation, and resource navigation to individuals in acute distress. He is a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
William is deeply committed to supporting first responders, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, veterans, and their spouses. While he is open to working with all individuals seeking therapy, he has a particular passion for serving those connected to high-stress, service-oriented roles. His passion for this work is reflected in his Master's thesis, which explored the psychoeducation experiences of spouses of public safety personnel (PSP). He is supervised by a Blue Cross provider. His interest in this area is rooted in his strong personal connections to the first responder and CAF communities. He served as a reservist in the CAF, an experience that gave him valuable insight into the psychological toll high-stress environments can have on individuals and their families.
William’s therapeutic approach is integrative, meaning he draws from various methods to best support your individual needs. William often incorporates Attachment Theory to explore how early relationships may shape the way you relate to others today. He also uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clarify your core values, using them as a compass for making meaningful life choices. Additionally, he weaves in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which allows you to examine different aspects of your inner world, address internal conflicts, and promote inner balance. His work is trauma-informed, ensuring that sessions provide a safe and supportive space for healing. He also brings a culturally sensitive lens, honouring and respecting the uniqueness of your background and lived experience.
In his personal time, William stays active by participating in local sports leagues (e.g., basketball and volleyball) and enjoys the outdoors. Spending time in nature via canoe-camping, sea-kayaking, and hiking are a few of the activities that also bring delight to his life.
William has cultivated a deep passion for learning and views ongoing education as essential to expanding his understanding of trauma and its effects on individuals and their close relationships. He actively engages in regular supervision, pursues formal training, and maintains a disciplined reading practice focused on the latest developments in psychotherapy, all of which support his continuous professional growth.
